Local writer features local parks in debut novel

New Coastside Thriller Showcases Our Local State Parks

By Bill Murray

A new thriller with deep Coastside roots is set to hit bookstore shelves this August.

Written by El Granada resident Steve Hawk and published by Viking Books, the debut novel is an action-packed page-turner set along the beautiful beaches of the San Mateo County Coastside. The story travels from state beach to state beach, weaving the region’s stunning coastal landscapes into a compelling work of fiction. While Hawk uses creative license to create the story, it is great fun to read local place names and descriptions.

To ensure authenticity, Hawk spent considerable time with local state park rangers while researching the novel. Readers familiar with the Coastside will recognize the author’s deep appreciation for the area’s natural beauty throughout the story.

Hawk brings an impressive publishing background to his fiction debut, having served as executive editor of Sierra, editor of Stanford Business magazine, and editor of Surfer magazine.

We are thrilled that the Coastside State Parks Association (CSPA) has been invited to participate in two special events celebrating the novel:

  • June 18 at 6:00 p.m. at Half Moon Bay Odd Fellows Hall
  • August 18 at 5:00 p.m. at Old Princeton Landing
